Universal Pictures Love Hurts
No matter how hard you try, you can’t break up with your past.

This Valentine’s Day, Oscar® winner Ke Huy Quan (Everything Everywhere All at Once, Loki) rockets into his first major leading man role as an unlikely hero, a seemingly mild-mannered realtor with a dark secret that he is desperate to leave behind. Spoiler alert: He won’t.

From 87North—producers of the groundbreaking action films Nobody, Violent Night, Bullet Train, Atomic Blonde and The Fall Guy—comes a visceral, high-octane story of wrath and revenge.

Quan stars as Marvin Gable, a realtor working the Milwaukee suburbs, where ‘For Sale’ signs bloom. Gable receives a crimson envelope from Rose (Oscar® winner Ariana DeBose; West Side Story, Argylle), a former partner-in-crime that he had left for dead. She’s not happy.

M. Night Shyamalan's SPLIT

It's been a long road back from hell for the man who directed some excellent films...and then...some terrible ones...and one abomination against all cartoon loving folk worldwide. With The Visit, he recaptured the hearts and mind of a horror loving public. Now SPLIT looks to be the psychological thriller we've been waiting for ...and perhaps, it will have a twist!

Writer/director/producer M. Night Shyamalan returns to the captivating grip of The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable and Signs with Split, an original thriller that delves into the mysterious recesses of one man’s fractured, gifted mind. Following last year’s breakout hit The Visit, Shyamalan reunites with producer Jason Blum (The Purge and Insidious series, The Gift) for the film.

Jem and The Holograms Trailer Drops..and Thuds

We here at Idle Hands harass the movie industry ..well...nearly constantly, for tackling characters and fandoms they don't understand at all, and further, generally don't wish to understand. They buy a license they think is marketable, grab all the names from the license, throw the tiniest bit of recognizable flash across the whole thing and then ride it out before a public who are, often, thoroughly confused. When the first images and synopsis for Jem And The Holograms dropped the other day, the reception was chilly but hopeful. Jem is the is the story of a woman who has already made it, alongside her best friends, using her power and influence to help people and one step further, becomes Jem to make sure everything is right in the world. This is NOT the story of a small town hopeful and her sisters getting their big break in the big city, adopting a persona that doesn't feel much like herself and now forced to decide what is really important in life. NO! Nope. Nuh uh. The studio could have taken it back to the beginning when the girls first find their powers and adopt their pseudo-super hero rock star personas..but no....what they did was cookie cutter, bland, uninspired and done at least a dozen times before. Dive in for the travesty...

Jaws Blu-ray Reviewed

I’m a bit of an odd duck. When I really love an older movie, I prefer to not own it, as this provides me the opportunity to run into it accidentally whilst flipping through channels some random day. It’s the most excellent of surprises. Occasionally, there is that rare instance when film makers put forth a Herculean effort to create the perfect Blu-ray transfer which then gets my attention…but a dilemma still exists. I am so used to watching the “safe for TV” version of a film, it becomes burned into my brain and the theatrical version is long forgotten. Such is the case with Jaws, a film with numerous scenes extended in the TV version; one of which has become my favorite.

Cowboys and Aliens Trailer Lands

In recent years, Hollywood has rediscovered the Western for an injection of originality, with excellent results...most of the time (coughjonahhexcough). Now, Universal simultaneously throws their bowler hat onto that dusty trail and takes a second bite (Skyline being the first) of the "Alien Attack" scenario with COWBOYS and ALIENS! I have to admit, not having time to see anything about the film at San Diego Comic Con, and knowing Harrison Ford and Sam Rockwell were on board, I just assumed this was a comedy/action/adventure sort of thing! Color me shocked...

1873. Arizona Territory. A stranger (Craig) with no memory of his past stumbles into the hard desert town of Absolution. The only hint to his history is a mysterious shackle that encircles one wrist. What he discovers is that the people of Absolution don't welcome strangers, and nobody makes a move on its streets unless ordered to do so by the iron-fisted Colonel Dolarhyde (Ford). It's a town that lives in fear.

But Absolution is about to experience fear it can scarcely comprehend as the desolate city is attacked by marauders from the sky. Screaming down with breathtaking velocity and blinding lights to abduct the helpless one by one, these monsters challenge everything the residents have ever known.

Now, the stranger they rejected is their only hope for salvation. As this gunslinger slowly starts to remember who he is and where he's been, he realizes he holds a secret that could give the town a fighting chance against the alien force. With the help of the elusive traveler Ella (Olivia Wilde), he pulls together a posse comprised of former opponents—townsfolk, Dolarhyde and his boys, outlaws and Apache warriors—all in danger of annihilation. United against a common enemy, they will prepare for an epic showdown for survival.

The film stars Daniel Craig, Olivia Wilde, Clancy Brown and Keith Carradine as well.

Universal has Paul, the alien encounter comedy with our favorite duo from Shaun of the Dead, set for a March 18th release and Cowboys & Aliens locked in for July 29, 2011. Add to the list their prequel to The Thing on tap for 2011, and it seems we'll be swimming in alien goo for the foreseeable future.
