The First Person Killfest Called Hardcore Henry

Hardcore Henry is one of the most unflinchingly original wild-rides to hit the big screen in a long time: You remember nothing. Mainly because you've just been brought back from the dead by your wife (Haley Bennett). She tells you that your name is Henry. Five minutes later, you are being shot at, your wife has been kidnapped, and you should probably go get her back. Who's got her? His name's Akan (Danila Kozlovsky); he's a powerful warlord with an army of mercenaries, and a plan for world domination. You're also in an unfamiliar city of Moscow, and everyone wants you dead. Everyone except for a mysterious British fellow called Jimmy (Sharlto Copley). He may be on your side, but you aren't sure. If you can survive the insanity, and solve the mystery, you might just discover your purpose and the truth behind your identity. Good luck, Henry. You're likely going to need it...

Fantasia 2013: Raze Reviewed

A group of women wake up in small metal cells and are forced to beat each other down with their bare hands til death. TWO CHICKS ENTER…ONE CHICK LEAVE! As you might expect, these fights are live broadcast for the entertainment of rich assholes dining somewhere in the distance. To drive these ladies to murder, their hosts provide live feeds of their loved ones, under constant surveillance and gunpoint. Should a lady lose a fight, her family dies with her. The majority of the film takes place below ground (we assume) with these women in peril and a forced connection between some of them as they scream through the walls. The challenge for the film makers becomes creating new situations and dialogue on a very small stage and not have it become repetitive, boring…or in the case of the beat downs…excessive. Luckily, they’ve got a very likable cast.

Judgement Is Coming in DREDD

Things we must assure you of going into September (soon enough) when building your anticipation of Dredd and simultaneously erasing the train wreck that was the Stallone version from your minds...

1. Dredd will keep his god damn helmet on.
2. Dredd does not have a plucky sidekick
3. If Dredd makes a joke, it is probably unintentional and made funny because he is standing on a pile of bodies. Piles of bodies make everything funnier.

Some have said Dredd may as well be "The Raid: Redemption" with your favorite 2000AD comic book character in the starring role, so that should give you a sense of the non-stop killfest we are in for! Here's the newest eye candy to close the deal...

BEHOLD... Lloyd The Conqueror

If you can only choose ONE LARPing comedy to fall in love with in the next 5 years....LET THIS BE THE ONE!

Lloyd hasn’t conquered much in his life, but he really needs that C average. Unfortunately his classical literature professor is Derek the Unholy and the extra credit he needs involves defeating his dark army of Orcs in the local LARP (live action role-playing) tournament.

Now Lloyd and his two friends must memorize spell-books, master sword play, and bring the White Wizard out of self-imposed exile if they are to save their student funding and win the girl – who fortunately happens to be an ex-cage fighter.

Drive Opening This Weekend

This one has been on my radar for a while, but whenever I discuss it with someone, their thoughts on what the film will be are jaded due to flashy commercials with a-typical dialogue and Statham-esque "Transporter" action. I'm told this film is so much more. Here's the story breakdown and some vids to give you a taste of what you're in for.

Ryan Gosling stars as a Los Angeles wheelman for hire, stunt driving for movie productions by day and steering getaway vehicles for armed heists by night. Though a loner by nature, Driver can't help falling in love with his beautiful neighbor Irene (Carey Mulligan), a vulnerable young mother dragged into a dangerous underworld by the return of her ex-convict husband Standard (Oscar Isaac).

After a heist intended to pay off Standard's protection money spins unpredictably out of control, Driver finds himself driving defense for the girl he loves, tailgated by a syndicate of deadly serious criminals (Albert Brooks and Ron Perlman). But when he realizes that the gangsters are after more than the bag of cash in his trunk-that they're coming straight for Irene and her son-Driver is forced to shift gears and go on offense.

Cast includes Academy Award® nominees Ryan Gosling (THE NOTEBOOK, HALF NELSON, BLUE VALENTINE) and Carey Mulligan (AN EDUCATION, WALL STREET 2: MONEY NEVER SLEEPS), three-time Emmy® Award winner Bryan Cranston ("Breaking Bad"), Golden Globe® winner Ron Perlman ("Sons of Anarchy"), Emmy® nominee Christina Hendricks ("Mad Men"), Oscar Isaac (BODY OF LIES, ROBIN HOOD) and Academy Award® nominee Albert Brooks (BROADCAST NEWS, "Weeds").

An now..eye candyyyyy

Interested, yea? This one gives you a sense of the tension they stir up in the film...

And this one is just some kick ass driving on display...

And lastly, here's Bryan Cranston with the hard sell...

Be there this friday!

SDCC: Garth Ennis Premieres Stitched

Avatar Press and Mischief Maker Studios proudly announce that legendary comic book writer Garth Ennis will be premiering his short film, Stitched, at San Diego Comic-Con on Thursday evening, July 21, at 8:15pm in the convention’s Room 6DE. Featuring Ennis’s debut as a filmmaker, Stitched blends supernatural horror with a contemporary war story, creating a terrifying landscape which will be explored further in an ongoing monthly comic book series.

The fifteen-minute long film is written and directed by Garth Ennis, best known as the writer of such best-selling comic books as Preacher, The Punisher, The Boys, and Crossed. A Mischief Maker Studios production, Stitched was produced by Brian Pulido, Francisca Pulido, and Ed Polgardy. Adam Goldfine served as Director of Photography, while both Garth Ennis and William Christensen, the founder of Avatar Press, served as Executive Producers.

In Stitched, three survivors of an American helicopter crash (played by actors Tank Jones, Lauren Alonzo, and Kate Kugler) struggle across the high mountains of Afghanistan. They’re injured, without food, water, or medicine, and moving through Taliban-controlled territory. Among the sun-bleached rocks, they discover something worse than enemy fighters: an ancient supernatural power – murderous, unstoppable, and serving a twenty-first century evil.

“I’ve been thinking about (directing films) for a number of years now,” says Ennis. “Ever since the interest in a Preacher film became more solid, and the options on it and The Boys were picked up. I've written screenplays and treatments for things like Crossed, but I haven't really devoted myself to a film project before, not the way I have with Stitched. I've always loved movies; my comics are much more heavily influenced by film and TV than they are by other comics. So having a go at this seems quite natural.”

Regarding the concept, Ennis says, “Stitched began as little more than a series of images, really – three little figures stumbling across a barren landscape, exhausted people struggling to survive, blood on the rocks of the mountains, and lots of frantic, close-in combat.” As production got underway, “you’re watching Taliban fighters, SAS troopers, and a U.S. helicopter crew wandering around in full uniform and equipment, AKs and M4s slung, Berettas holstered. It all started as words on the page and then translated to so much hard work and commitment.”

Hosting the premiere of Stitched at San Diego Comic-Con marks a first for the convention; although it regularly host panels featuring actors or sneak peak footage of upcoming films, SDCC has never previously premiered a film on-site. San Diego Comic-Con is the largest convention in the western hemisphere, drawing 130,000 attendees annually. With Ennis being a name brand in the comic book community, the convention anticipates that his one-evening-only film premiere will draw a maximum capacity crowd. San Diego Comic-Con attendees will also have an opportunity to purchase exclusive early release DVDs on site for an autographing opportunity with creator Garth Ennis.

The footage filmed for Stitched comprises the opening conflict of a script intended as a full-length feature film. The full Ennis-penned script will be the basis of the first story arc in the upcoming, ongoing comic book series. From the behind-the-scenes footage available on the DVD release, Ennis says, “Stitched is going to have legs beyond just this 15-minute short. Most immediately, we're going to launch a new comic drawn by the always-excellent Mike Wolfer. The first series will tell the complete story that the film only begins.” The first issue of the comic book series will be released in November alongside the nationwide Stitched DVD release.

New Sucker Punch Vid & Eye Candy

Even though I've now seen Tron and was fairly underwhelmed, I'm still psyched for the insanity of Sucker Punch! It's Zack Snyder. He made fucking OWLS doing battle in medieval garb fun to watch. The man can do no wrong. We've got battle mech suits, fire breathing dragons, evil WWII looking storm troopers, giant gatling gun toting Samurai with glowing eyes, soulless robots and hot girls blowing everything to kingdom come. What's not to love? Now Warner Brothers drops some Holiday cheer on us with a featurette stacked miles high with new footage to oooo, ahhhh and Oh Holy Shit over. Observe...

Close your eyes. Open your mind. You will be unprepared. "Sucker Punch" is an epic action fantasy that takes us into the vivid imagination of a young girl whose dream world provides the ultimate escape from her darker reality. Unrestrained by the boundaries of time and place, she is free to go where her mind takes her, and her incredible adventures blur the lines between what's real and what is imaginary. She has been locked away against her will, but Babydoll (Emily Browning) has not lost her will to survive. Determined to fight for her freedom, she urges four other young girls--the outspoken Rocket (Jena Malone), the street-smart Blondie (Vanessa Hudgens), the fiercely loyal Amber (Jamie Chung) and the reluctant Sweet Pea (Abbie Cornish)--to band together and try to escape their terrible fate at the hands of their captors, Blue (Oscar Isaac), Madam Gorski (Carla Gugino) and the High Roller (Jon Hamm). Led by Babydoll, the girls engage in fantastical warfare against everything from samurais to serpents, with a virtual arsenal at their disposal. Together, they must decide what they are willing to sacrifice in order to stay alive. But with the help of a Wise Man (Scott Glenn), their unbelievable journey--if they succeed--will set them free.

SKYLINE Reviewed

After being blown away by the Battle: Los Angeles trailer, international trailer and loooovely screen caps we've presented to you (you're welcome) you are wondering if it is worth it to slip on some comfy pants and head to the movies tonight to see LA get destroyed RIGHT NOW!?! All the answers will be revealed...over at Dread Central.com where I've cleared my throat all over their reviews section. HIT THIS LINK to taste my confusion, awe, pain, spite, rage, confusion again, and hysteria from lack of sleep. If you could bottle it, it would taste like Peach Snapple mixed with Cherry Coke Zero and Hawaiian Punch. Mmm, mm good.

Battle: Los Angeles Trailer Drops

A little movie about a speeding train came out today and there were a fat fist full of trailers on the front of it. BATTLE: LOS ANGELES was one of them. When talking to friends about this newest entry into the Aliens VS Us franchise war, I described it as "great big fucking robots tearing apart buildings in the middle of the city while fighting modern military forces." The reply I got back was "isn't that Skyline?" Well...almost..but not quite. Dig the new trailer!!

For years, there have been documented cases of UFO sightings around the world – Buenos Aires, Seoul, France, Germany, China. But in 2011, what were once just sightings will become a terrifying reality when Earth is attacked by unknown forces. As people everywhere watch the world’s great cities fall, Los Angeles becomes the last stand for mankind in a battle no one expected. It’s up to a Marine staff sergeant (Aaron Eckhart) and his new platoon to draw a line in the sand as they take on an enemy unlike any they’ve ever encountered before.

I'd also like to mention that Michelle Rodriguez is in this with a giant gun and a mad on for killin' aliens. SELLING POINT!! Battle: LA hits theaters March 11, 2011

*UPDATED: Sooo..What the Hell is Sucker Punch About?!

This was the question I was asked even after people saw the trailer we ran at several conventions. The second question being; So the giant samurais, dragons, robots, hot girls with ninja weapons...that's all in one movie?! Yep...get ready for an instant cult classic...

Close your eyes. Open your mind. You will be unprepared.

“Sucker Punch” is an epic action fantasy that takes us into the vivid imagination of a young girl whose dream world provides the ultimate escape from her darker reality. Official Green Lantern Synopsis Hits the Internets

Soooo many questions about this movie still plaguing my geek sensibilities, forcing me to dial down my excitement until I know more. What will Ryan Reynolds look like in his CG outfit?? What will Ryan Reynolds be like as the mostly serious Hal Jordan?! And on a more peronal question note; Our Wolfman buddy Spencer Wilding is on the set as we speak..playing...? Let's take a guess. The guy is HUGE and when I once slapped his chest to get his attention, I nearly broke my hand. Giant powerhouse =...Kilowog? Very likely! You may have heard it here first, though they'll probably use someone else for the voice since Spence is a Welshman. Today, we take one giant step toward the brightest day with the official synopsis from those fine folks at Warner. Read on...

Bringing the enduringly popular superhero to the big screen for the first time, “Green Lantern” stars Ryan Reynolds (“X-Men Origins: Wolverine”) in the title role, under the direction of Martin Campbell (“Casino Royale”).

In a universe as vast as it is mysterious, a small but powerful force has existed for centuries. Protectors of peace and justice, they are called the Green Lantern Corps. A brotherhood of warriors sworn to keep intergalactic order, each Green Lantern wears a ring that grants him superpowers. But when a new enemy called Parallax threatens to destroy the balance of power in the Universe, their fate and the fate of Earth lie in the hands of their newest recruit, the first human ever selected: Hal Jordan.

Hal is a gifted and cocky test pilot, but the Green Lanterns have little respect for humans, who have never harnessed the infinite powers of the ring before. But Hal is clearly the missing piece to the puzzle, and along with his determination and willpower, he has one thing no member of the Corps has ever had: humanity. With the encouragement of fellow pilot and childhood sweetheart Carol Ferris (Blake Lively), if Hal can quickly master his new powers and find the courage to overcome his fears, he may prove to be not only the key to defeating Parallax…he will become the greatest Green Lantern of all.

Campbell directs “Green Lantern” from a screenplay by Greg Berlanti & Michael Green & Marc Guggenheim and Michael Goldenberg, story by Greg Berlanti & Michael Green & Marc Guggenheim, based upon characters appearing in comic books published by DC Comics.

The film also stars Blake Lively (upcoming “The Town,” TV’s “Gossip Girl”) as the spirited Carol Ferris, a test pilot and the heir apparent to her father’s aviation company; Peter Sarsgaard (“An Education,” “Flightplan”) as scientist Dr. Hector Hammond; Mark Strong (“Sherlock Holmes”) as Sinestro, Jordan’s powerful mentor in the Green Lantern Corps; Jay O. Sanders (“Revolutionary Road”) as Carl Ferris, Carol’s aircraft designer dad; Temuera Morrison (“Star Wars” Episodes II and III) as Abin Sur, Jordan’s alien predecessor; Taika Waititi (TV’s “The Flight of the Conchords”) as flight navigator Tom Kalmaku, Hal’s good friend and confidante; Academy Award® nominee Angela Bassett (“What’s Love Got to Do with It”) as enigmatic government scientist Amanda Waller; and Academy Award® winner Tim Robbins (“Mystic River”) as Hector’s influential father, Senator Robert Hammond.

The film is being produced by Donald De Line (“The Italian Job”) and Greg Berlanti (upcoming “Life As We Know It”). Herbert W. Gains and Andrew Haas serve as executive producers. Geoff Johns and Lucienne Papon are co-producing.

The film’s behind-the-scenes creative team is led by a number of Academy Award® winners, including director of photography Dion Beebe (“Memoirs of a Geisha”), production designer Grant Major (“The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King”), and costume designer Ngila Dickson (“The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King”), as well as Oscar®-nominated editor and longtime Campbell collaborator, Stuart Baird (“Gorillas in the Mist,” “Superman”). The film’s visual effects are being overseen by Oscar®-nominee Kent Houston (“The Adventures of Baron Von Munchausen,” “Casino Royale”).

The film is currently scheduled for release in 3D and 2D on June 17, 2011. “Green Lantern” will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

Oh yea..and then this happened. >

Anyone care for a Green Lantern CG TV show?

New Iron Man 2 Eye Candy

2 WEEKS!!! The privileged on the west coast have already been pumped full of armored ecstasy, but for us normal folks, its just another 2 weeks til we dive back into the Marvel Movie Universe. Paramount dishes out new clips (which I'm not posting because I WANT TO BE SURPRISED BY SOME OF THIS FREAKING MOVIE) and new images I will actually post..for you...out of love. I even did a clean up on the Black Widow/Tony Stark pic as it was grainy and she looked like she had a 5 o'clock shadow and armpit stubbles.

Paramount Pictures and Marvel Entertainment present the highly anticipated sequel to the blockbuster film based on the legendary Marvel Super Hero “Iron Man,” reuniting director Jon Favreau and Oscar® nominee Robert Downey Jr. In “Iron Man 2,” the world is aware that billionaire inventor Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) is the armored Super Hero Iron Man. Under pressure from the government, the press and the public to share his technology with the military, Tony is unwilling to divulge the secrets behind the Iron Man armor because he fears the information will slip into the wrong hands. With Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow), and James “Rhodey” Rhodes (Don Cheadle) at his side, Tony forges new alliances and confronts powerful new forces.

NEW Expendables Trailer Will Kick Your Monitor's Ass

Wrap your geek toxic brain around the most awesome lineup of action stars you can manage. Now, put them all in one movie. DREAMS DO COME TRUE!! Lionsgate, you complete me.

THE EXPENDABLES is a hard-hitting action/thriller about a group of mercenaries hired to infiltrate a South American country and overthrow its ruthless dictator. Once the mission begins, the men realize things aren’t quite as they appear, finding themselves caught in a dangerous web of deceit and betrayal. With their mission thwarted and an innocent life in danger, the men struggle with an even tougher challenge – one that threatens to destroy this band of brothers.

Barney Ross (Sylvester Stallone) is a man with nothing to lose. Fearless and void of emotion, he is the leader, the sage and the strategist of this tight-knit band of men who live on the fringe. His only attachment is to his pickup truck, his seaplane and his team of loyal modern-day warriors. His is a true cynic who describes what he does as “removing those hard to get at stains.” The team behind him is made up of Lee Christmas (Jason Statham), former SAS and a savant with anything that has a blade; Yin Yang (Jet Li), a master at close-quarter combat; Hale Caesar (Terry Crews), who has known Barney for ten years and is a long-barrel weapons specialist; Toll Road (Randy Couture), a skilled demolitions expert and considered the intellect of the group; and Gunnar Jensen (Dolph Lundgren), a combat veteran and an expert in precision sniping who struggles with his own demons.

When the mysterious Church offers Barney a job no one else would take, Barney and his team embark on what appears to be a routine mission: overthrow General Gaza (David Zayas), the murderous dictator of the small island country of Vilena and end the years of death and destruction inflicted on its people. On a reconnaissance mission to Vilena, Barney and Christmas meet their contact Sandra (Giselle Itie), a local freedom-fighter with a dark secret. They also come to learn who their true enemy is: rogue ex-CIA operative James Monroe (Eric Roberts) and his henchman Paine (Steve Austin). When things go terribly wrong, Barney and Christmas are forced to leave Sandra behind, essentially giving her a death sentence. Haunted by this failure, Barney convinces the team to return to Vilena to rescue the hostage and finish the job he started. And to perhaps save a soul: his own.
