TTPM Holiday Showcase 2019: Mega Construx Meets Mother of Dragons

TTPM Holiday Showcase 2019 Mattel Mega Construx Game of Thrones
Mattel has never lost the ability to surprise with their releases. While a lot of companies keep up on our toes with constant news and teases of product releases yet to come, Mattel quietly sit back and do their thing, and we often hear about their newest toys when they hit a store and an eager toy fan scoops it up! With Mattel's Mega Construx Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles line winding down, we wondered what great license they would tackle next. Would you have believed Game of Thrones was the answer? I...did not!

SDCC 2018: Dark Horse Game of Thrones Ice Dragon Statue

SDCC Dark Horse Direct Game of Thrones Ice Dragon and The Night King Statue 001
In one of the most awe-evoking moments of HBO’s adaptation of Game of Thrones, The Night King, riding the undead Viserion, brings The Wall at Eastwatch crumbling down in a rain of blue dragon fire, cinder, and ash.

Freshly risen from the icy waters beyond the wall, Dark Horse has captured this unseen moment in all its detail with Viserion’s wings outstretched in ferocity, poised to decimate all that lay in his path. The level of detail exhibited in everything from the rips in the wings to the meticulously detailed dragon-scales, you won’t be able to help but imagine this wreaking havoc through the towns and cities of Westeros.

Jackson the Cat Reviews Playmobil Dragons

Over my 20 something years of writing for websites and trying my best to recruit top talent to report and take pictures for us, it's always been a challenge keeping people on board. It seems like everyone wants to come to the party, but no one wants to help set up before, and everyone peaces out before it's time to clean up...but everyone wants a gift bag!! In dealing with this challenge, we often have to think outside the box, recruiting talent from all walks of life who at least have our geek loves in common. Last year...we hired a cat.

Pete's Dragon: Elliot the Dragon Revealed

Make sure your heart strings are firmly attached....they are about to get tugged like nobody's business...

For years, old wood carver Mr. Meacham (Robert Redford) has delighted local children with his tales of the fierce dragon that resides deep in the woods of the Pacific Northwest. To his daughter, Grace (Bryce Dallas Howard), who works as a forest ranger, these stories are little more than tall tales…until she meets Pete (Oakes Fegley). Pete is a mysterious 10-year-old with no family and no home who claims to live in the woods with a giant, green dragon named Elliot. And from Pete’s descriptions, Elliot seems remarkably similar to the dragon from Mr. Meacham’s stories. With the help of Natalie (Oona Laurence), an 11-year-old girl whose father Jack (Wes Bentley) owns the local lumber mill, Grace sets out to determine where Pete came from, where he belongs, and the truth about this dragon. Disney’s “Pete’s Dragon” opens in U.S. theaters on August 12, 2016.

See How To Train Your Dragon LIVE

I'm waaaay late to the party on this one, but the fact that the production is in Australia should give me a little leeway. No? I'm a slow git? OK then. ANYWAY...the madmen and women behind Walking With Dinosaurs are back with a spectacle plucked from the feverish minds of DreamWorks creatives...

DreamWorks Animation has created an unprecedented live entertainment event for a world-wide audience. In partnership with Global Creatures, the masterminds behind the phenomenon Walking with Dinosaurs – The Arena Spectacular, DreamWorks will bring to life an epic adventure inspired by the hit movie HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON.

This must-see arena spectacle will begin its world tour in Australia in March 2012 and will break all the rules of traditional arena entertainment. In this state-of-the-art production fire-breathing dragons with wingspans of up to 40 feet will soar overhead, immersing audiences into a magical and mythical world of Vikings and Dragons.

Featuring a dazzling cast including world-class circus and acrobatic performers, DreamWorks HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON arena spectacle promises to be the theatrical experience of a lifetime that will leave audiences of any age in awe! The dragons have been created by Sonny Tilders and his team at The Creature Technology Company, whose previous work brought to life the stunning, life like dinosaurs in Walking With Dinosaurs – The Arena Spectacular. Included in the cast of 24 dragons are all the favorites from the film: Nadder, Gronckle, Nightmare, Night Fury (Toothless) and Red Death, which is the largest animatronic creature ever made by The Creature Technology Company.

Creature Designer Tilders said “Dragons will incorporate everything we learned from Walking with Dinosaurs whilst taking the technology to a brand new level. Using state of the art computer software we are able to make these creatures perform in ways that we previously thought unimaginable. Utilizing computer controlled flying systems we have a show that inhabits the air above you as well as the arena floor below.” The creative team includes the highly acclaimed theatre director and writer Nigel Jamieson, multiple award-winning Australian production designer Peter England and leading theatre, film and opera designer Dan Potra. The stunning score features composition from Icelandic singer-songwriter Jonsi from Sigur Ros and Oscar ® nominated British film composer John Powell, who created the original score for the animated film How To Train Your Dragon.

So now you want to know when this will be hitting our American shores? The tour wraps up in Brisbane April 1st, then it's off to Auckland and then the United States in June! Keep your eyes glued here for further info as it drops.

Sucker Punch Review

High Concept is a term we throw out there when a movie is so bat shit crazy and over the top but at the same time introduces the audience to heaping helpings of amazing eye candy, the likes of which may have you grinning like a 6 yr old boy seeing a Batman movie for the first time. Sometimes they work...sometimes they give you a brain aneurysm. Sucker Punch is one such movie, not unlike the sticky, fevered dreams of those who create Final Fantasy films and video games. Scantly clad, super powered ninja girls battle Kung Fu robots, giant Samurai wielding gatling guns, Goblins, undead steampunk Nazis and even a fire breathing dragon in a series of dreamscapes conjured by a girl named Baby Doll who is desperately trying to break free from her hellish human confines. Is there more story than this? Nope...but the colors sure are pretty!!

New Sucker Punch Vid & Eye Candy

Even though I've now seen Tron and was fairly underwhelmed, I'm still psyched for the insanity of Sucker Punch! It's Zack Snyder. He made fucking OWLS doing battle in medieval garb fun to watch. The man can do no wrong. We've got battle mech suits, fire breathing dragons, evil WWII looking storm troopers, giant gatling gun toting Samurai with glowing eyes, soulless robots and hot girls blowing everything to kingdom come. What's not to love? Now Warner Brothers drops some Holiday cheer on us with a featurette stacked miles high with new footage to oooo, ahhhh and Oh Holy Shit over. Observe...

Close your eyes. Open your mind. You will be unprepared. "Sucker Punch" is an epic action fantasy that takes us into the vivid imagination of a young girl whose dream world provides the ultimate escape from her darker reality. Unrestrained by the boundaries of time and place, she is free to go where her mind takes her, and her incredible adventures blur the lines between what's real and what is imaginary. She has been locked away against her will, but Babydoll (Emily Browning) has not lost her will to survive. Determined to fight for her freedom, she urges four other young girls--the outspoken Rocket (Jena Malone), the street-smart Blondie (Vanessa Hudgens), the fiercely loyal Amber (Jamie Chung) and the reluctant Sweet Pea (Abbie Cornish)--to band together and try to escape their terrible fate at the hands of their captors, Blue (Oscar Isaac), Madam Gorski (Carla Gugino) and the High Roller (Jon Hamm). Led by Babydoll, the girls engage in fantastical warfare against everything from samurais to serpents, with a virtual arsenal at their disposal. Together, they must decide what they are willing to sacrifice in order to stay alive. But with the help of a Wise Man (Scott Glenn), their unbelievable journey--if they succeed--will set them free.

*UPDATED: Sooo..What the Hell is Sucker Punch About?!

This was the question I was asked even after people saw the trailer we ran at several conventions. The second question being; So the giant samurais, dragons, robots, hot girls with ninja weapons...that's all in one movie?! Yep...get ready for an instant cult classic...

Close your eyes. Open your mind. You will be unprepared.

“Sucker Punch” is an epic action fantasy that takes us into the vivid imagination of a young girl whose dream world provides the ultimate escape from her darker reality. Unrestrained by the boundaries of time and place, she is free to go where her mind takes her, and her incredible adventures blur the lines between what’s real and what is imaginary.

She has been locked away against her will, but Babydoll (Emily Browning) has not lost her will to survive. Determined to fight for her freedom, she urges four other young girls—the outspoken Rocket (Jena Malone), the street-smart Blondie (Vanessa Hudgens), the fiercely loyal Amber (Jamie Chung) and the reluctant Sweet Pea (Abbie Cornish)—to band together and try to escape their terrible fate at the hands of their captors, Blue (Oscar Isaac), Madam Gorski (Carla Gugino) and the High Roller (Jon Hamm).

Together, they must decide what they are willing to sacrifice in order to stay alive. But with the help of a Wise Man (Scott Glenn), their unbelievable journey—if they succeed—will set them free.

Born from the creative vision of filmmaker Zack Snyder (“Watchmen,” “300”), “Sucker Punch” features an ensemble cast of young stars, including Emily Browning (“The Uninvited”), Abbie Cornish (“Bright Star”), Jena Malone (“Into the Wild”), Vanessa Hudgens (the “High School Musical” films) and Jamie Chung (“Sorority Row”). The film’s main cast also includes Oscar Isaac (“Robin Hood”) and Carla Gugino (“Watchmen”), with Jon Hamm (“The Town,” TV’s “Mad Men”) and Scott Glenn (“The Bourne Ultimatum”).

Zack Snyder directed “Sucker Punch” from a screenplay he wrote with Steve Shibuya, based on Snyder’s story. Snyder and Deborah Snyder produced, with Thomas Tull, Wesley Coller, Jon Jashni, Chris deFaria, Jim Rowe and William Fay serving as executive producers.

The behind-the-scenes creative team includes Academy Award®-winning production designer Rick Carter (“Avatar”) and “Watchmen” and “300” veterans director of photography Larry Fong, editor William Hoy and costume designer Michael Wilkinson. The music is by Tyler Bates and Marius DeVries.

Warner Bros. Pictures presents, in association with Legendary Pictures, a Cruel and Unusual Production of a Zack Snyder film, “Sucker Punch.” Opening nationwide March 25, 2011, the film will be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

Prepare for Avengers VS Pet Avengers!!

With a title like that there had better be some pet on pet all out carnage, I tell you whut. That said, there's nothing I don't like about this idea, other than me buying it. You'd think any chance to see Thor as a frog again would be pounced on, but..no. Sure, its a fun idea but it does nothing for me, as Pet Avengers on their own does nothing for me. Now prove to me that the writing is so far beyond the concept and I'll jump in face first. I guess that remains to be seen!

Marvel is pleased to present your first look at Avengers vs. Pet Avengers #1 (of 4), from the creative team of fan favorite writer Chris Eliopoulos and artist Ig Guara! Earth’s Mightiest Heroes are downsizing. Literally. With Thor, Iron Man and Captain America mysteriously transformed into amphibians, can they possibly defeat a legion of dragons led by none other than Fing Fang Foom? Not without the help of Earth’s Mightiest Pets, Lockjaw and the Pet Avengers! Worlds collide this October in Avengers vs. Pet Avengers #1 (of 4)!

AVENGERS VS. PET AVENGERS #1 (of 4) Written by CHRIS ELIOPOULOS, Pencils and Cover by IG GUARA - All Ages …$3.99 - ON SALE – 10/20/10

Spin Master: How to Train Your Dragon Toy Line

Moving on to the second line inexplicably absent from the US Toy Fair 2010, we'll take a look at How to Train Your Dragon! I'm still amazed that for once, they showed something at UK and NOT in the US, so neither camps have live pics now. Odd. Anyway, this line has me excited, as any opportunity to give dragon toys to my nephew is a good day. He's got the Imaginext Dinosaurs and I just started him on Megabloks Dragons, so this line is PERFECT to segway him right into action figures! You'll notice some differences in my pics between items that look similar. Half the images came from Spin Master who sent the optimized press pics. The others were released by Walmart (the exclusive outlet for the line) and reflect the actual product. Click the images to super size. Here's the press...

From the Studio that brought you “Shrek”, “Madagascar” and “Kung Fu Panda” comes “How to Train Your Dragon”. Set in the mythical world of burly Vikings and wild dragons, this is the story of Hiccup, a Viking teenager who doesn’t exactly fit in with his tribe’s longstanding tradition of heroic dragon slayers. Hiccup’s world is turned upside down when he encounters a dragon that challenges he and his fellow Vikings to see the world from an entirely different point of view.
Spin Master brings the movie characters and story to life with its “How to Train Your Dragon” toy line. Battle dragons, role play your favourite characters, soar through the air like a dragon, and more! Age: 5+

LEGO Board Games: Don't Build Drunk

LEGO Systems, Inc., the North American division of the world's leading construction toy brand, announced today that it will take its play pattern and values into a new toy category with 10 premium constructible board games. Each of the 10 LEGO Games leverages classic board game play of guessing, strategy, memory, logic and chance to offer a new way to play with the construction toy brand. The first five LEGO Games are due to release online on March 1, and all 10 will be available August 1 in the board game aisle at retail.

LEGO Games cater to a wide range of purchase and play occasions, ages, play types and price points. Each game provides everything needed to start building and playing right out of the box, including a customizable LEGO dice and separate building and game play instructions. LEGO Games are designed to be a new game every time they are played, encouraging children of all ages to build the game differently or change the rules and dice to keep game play fresh and exciting.

"The strong momentum we have in our U.S. business allows us to expand beyond the construction category to bring a decidedly LEGO twist to board games," said Soren Torp Laursen, president, LEGO Systems. "When we look for ways to reinterpret the LEGO play experience, they must be obviously LEGO brand but never seen before, which LEGO Games delivers in a big way. We believe we will introduce our passionate fans to a new way to play with the brand while also recruiting new fans ? and families ? to LEGO play."

"The fusion of a trusted brand with compelling game play is a winning combination for a category that traditionally sees little innovation," says renowned strategy game developer Reiner Knizia, who consulted with the company on development of the games. "With a variety of game types, buildable game boards and changeable rules, no two LEGO Games experiences are ever the same."

Beginning in March, five LEGO Games will be available for sale in select toy, discount merchandise and specialty online stores, including:

* Monster 4 - The first player to get four of their monsters in a row wins. Every roll of the LEGO dice brings a chance to move a monster, displace another player's monsters or send the giant spider in to clear some space. SRP $14.99

* Lava Dragon - Players must prove they are the bravest knight by being the first to climb the volcano and summon the mighty dragon. Along the way, each roll of the LEGO dice helps players to climb, block opponents, avoid lava or knock opponents off the volcano! This exciting game of strategy and luck is never the same game twice. SRP $14.99

* Pirate Code - Players must be the first to guess their opponents' secret treasure codes before theirs is revealed to take the title of pirate captain. In this game of logic, luck, secrets and treasures, players can set their own code of jewels in their treasure chest so the game is different every time. SRP $19.99

* Minotaurus - Players must be the first to lead their three heroes to the temple, avoiding the Minotaur and cleverly placing walls to block their opponents. By changing the LEGO dice, players can jump hedges, and by re-building the maze, every game is a new adventure. This game of chance and strategy is great fun for the whole family. SRP $24.99

* Creationary - Players roll the LEGO dice to select one of four exciting building categories: vehicles, buildings, nature or things. Three levels of difficulty give players a chance to show off their creative building skills so that others can guess what is being created. A great game for family and friends to test their imagination, creativity, building and guessing skills. SRP $34.99

All LEGO Games will be widely available in the board game aisles of toy, discount merchandise and specialty stores nationwide. Joining the five launching in March are:

* Robo Champ - The first player to build a robot with all the correct color parts will win the trophy and be named Robo Champ! Each roll of the LEGO dice brings a chance to collect the parts needed or grab them from other players to finish the bot and take the trophy! SRP $9.99

* Magikus - With the help of the owl, players race to be the first to collect the four special ingredients to cast the magical spell. Each roll of the LEGO dice brings a new chance to collect new ingredients or grab the ones needed from opponents to win. SRP $9.99

* Race 3000 - Players must show that they have what it takes to cross the finish line first and take the trophy! Along the way, players must use shortcuts, overtake or turbo boost past their opponents and change lanes to avoid oil slicks. Players can build a new track and change the LEGO dice each time they play so no two races are ever the same! SRP $19.99

* Hogwarts? - Between the moving staircase & secret passages at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, it can be tricky for players to find their way around Harry Potter's school. The first player to successfully navigate the magical castle to collect all of their homework from their classes and get back to the common area is the winning wizard. SRP $29.99

* Ramses Pyramid - Players must unlock the crystal coded layers to climb to the top of the pyramid and defeat the Mummy King Ramses before he takes over Egypt, taking his crown and the treasures buried deep within. In this family game of memory, skill and cunning, players can compete against each other or team up to dethrone King Ramses! Created in cooperation with renowned strategy game developer, Reiner Knizia. SRP $29.99
