Smaug Action Figure Finally Joining The Hobbit Toy Line

HE IS COMING!!! His wingspan is 22 inches of (scale!) hurricane fury. His 21 inch height allows him to cast a shadow on an entire Schleich Smurf village. 140 painting procedures will ensure his might is recreated in painstaking detail. HE IS SMAUG!! ...and he's finally going to be joining your Hobbit action figure collection!!

From the depths of Erebor and the film The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies comes this detailed, limited edition Smaug the dragon large scale action figure, complete with a surprise 1.5" figure and accessory.  Featuring an impressive 22 inch wingspan, Smaug stands tall, measuring 21 inches.  No details were overlooked as this center piece of any action figure collection was in development.  Smaug boasts ten points of articulation and underwent over 140 painting procedures.  The figure is plastic, but Smaug's tail and wingtips have a wire core, allowing for additional poses.  This item has a limited edition production run of 3000 units and each box will be labeled with a gold sticker indicating the number.  Please note:  no special requests can be made for specific numbers.  Measurements are approximate and some assembly is required.  Note:  the surprise figure and accessory will be revealed at a later date.  Age 8+.

Toy Fair 2014: The Bridge Direct Strawberry Shortcake

Hey, this one was requested! ....and I like pleasing people. Amid The Bridge Direct's WWE Construction toys and The Hobbit action figures was a line who survived the 80's, continually going toe to toe with My Little Pony and the DemiGod, Barbie, herself. This destroyer's name is STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE!! ~shudder~

Toy Fair 2014: A Grim Future For Hobbit Toys

Last year, around this time, we featured the first images of several new figures from The Hobbit toy line from The Bridge Direct for the second installment, The Desolation of Smaug. On display were all the remaining dwarves not yet produced (Nori, Ori, Dori, Gloin, Oin, Bifur, Bofur and Bombur), Radagast the Brown, Azog and his Warg and Bolg (pre-Weta last minute movie make over) for the 3 and 3 quarter inch scale. 6 inch figure additions included Azog and Radagast.

As December rolled around and the film came and went, those action figure release plans didn't exactly come to pass. So what did show up on retailer shelves? A 3 and 3 quarter inch Mirkwood Hero 5 Pack with only 1 new figure (Thranduil), a repackaged 6 inch Legolas and two new 6 inch figures of Azog and Radagast. That's 3 new figures for those keeping score...a little shy of the 19 figures released for the first film. Bolg squeaked by as part of the first film's 2 packs. No dwarves, no smaller scale Azog and absolutely no sign of the Smaug dragon the Bridge crew was encouraging us to shout for in February of 2013.

SDCC 2013: The Bridge Direct's Hobbit Exclusive

Nasty, filthy Hobbitses. Always tromping about where they're not wanted. Stealing..sneaksing..chewing on anythings they thinks is foodses. If only there was someones who would put the axe to their skinny Hobbit neckses....

Maybe AZOG will get the job done...

7” tall Orc Commander Azog comes in a numbered, limited edition of 2,600 pieces. Azog is depicted as he appears in the prologue scene from The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. In the battle between the dwarves and an army of orcs to reclaim Moria, Azog holds the severed head of the dwarf King Thror up in victory. The figure comes with interchangeable hands – the right hand that holds Thror’s head can be replaced with a hand capable of holding either his dagger or mace, and the left hand can be switched with the prosthetic spikes that replaced the hand he lost to Thorin’s sword.

Toy Fair 2013 : The WB Push Looney Tunes

Can you recall the last time you saw Looney Tunes merchandise on the shelves at your local toy stores? Man...was it DC Direct that had a line ages ago? If that's the case, those were only in comic shops and specialty retailers. Warner Brothers stores had some fantastic vinyl figures as well...but those days are long gone and the WB shops are closed, and with a new cartoon on the air that does NOT feature cracked out extreeeeme versions of their iconic characters, we need new toys!

Toy Fair 2013 : The Bridge Direct's The Hobbit

Back into Toy Fair 2013 with an update on The Bridge Direct's The Hobbit action figure line! We are one film down and 2 to go...and fans have nooooo idea how they are going to stretch that out. While we'd hoped to glean some insight on that from the toy line....no such luck. That Peter Jackson is a crafty mofo. The Bridge's initial 2013 offerings seem to focus squarely on rounding out their first film, but that doesn't mean they aren't going to get out two waves this year. Perhaps one in the second quarter and one right before the next film's release. No actual word on that, but here's what we do know...

Action figures, playsets, mini collectible figures, roleplay and board games all on the way. PLAYSETS!!! Yaaaay. The Mini collectible figures they mention appear to be those we covered HERE. Looks like they will bring them to the US, so Hobbit fans, get ready to share in the pains of mystery figure hunting. aaaannnd...go.

UPDATED! : More Hobbit Toys On The Way

Word of The Hobbit toys from Bridge Direct already hitting Toys R Us shelves has been winding its way through many a blog..and wallet..so we thought it time to show you what comes next! We've got some new visuals for you, so if you are the non-spoilery type, we suggest you avert your eyes immediately and hope our lead in pic has not ruined your day.

SO! What we are looking at today is a brand new 3 and 3 quarter inch action figure packs with Legolas and Tauriel, a Warg and Fimbul the Hunter, Bolg and Gandalf, and Grinah the Goblin who is missing a partner for the moment. We've also got a look at the Goblin King and Torin Oakenshield pack (Courtesy of TheOneRing.net), showing the massive size The Bridge is willing to put into their monsters...and why we didn't sob like big babies when we heard the nasty words "3 and 3 quarter inch" when we all wanted nothing but 6 inch figures to stand alongside out Toy Biz figure collections. We'll also take a peek at Legolas and Tauriel in the 6 inch format!

The Hobbit Figures In Production

LinkWhen last we met the stars of Peter Jackson's The Hobbit in plastic form, we were gazing upon the first images of our pint sized adventurers...plus one tall, grey wizard. Now, as we inch closer to the October 1st release date, the actual production pictures are dropping. For those new to these terms, here's a quick course.

Hobbit Toys Hit Pre-Orders

Big Bad Toy Store just sent out an email blast with The Bridge Direct's Hobbit movie toy line right at the top. Very little in the way of details to each section at this time, but it seams like 3 and 3 quarter inch will be the bulk of the action figure line with select 6 inch "collector' figures rounding out and various role play for the kiddies (large and small). Here's the run down...

3.75 inch Action Figure Series 1 - Case of 6 - due out October 2012 - Sadly, the news here is, at $59.99 for a case of 6, we are talking $10 a figure. Why companies think this price is acceptable for such small figures is beyond me. I don't expect this will get any cheaper in stores.

3.75 inch action figure 2-packs series 1 - Case of 4 - also October 2012 - $67.99

3.75 inch Collector Pack - $29.9 - October 2012

3.75 inch Goblin Battle Set - $44.99 - October 2012

3.75 inch Beast Pack Series 1 - Case of 4 - $87.99 - October 2012

6 inch Deluxe Collector Figure series 1 - Case of 6 - $99.99 - October 2012 (what do you think..16 and change a pop?)

Deluxe Sting Sword - $21.99 - October 2012
Dwarven Battle Axe - $14.99 - October 2012
Role Play Sting Sword - $10.99 - October 2012
