Today, in San Diego Comic-Con’s iconic Hall H, over 6,500 fans were transported back to Middle-earth as Prime Video showcased the highly anticipated third season of the epic fantasy series, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. Showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay were joined by several of the show’s cast for a fun and insightful conversation moderated by High King Gil-galad himself, series star Benjamin Walker. The panel not only debuted a thrilling new teaser trailer, but revealed some exciting highlights from the new season, and a few surprises as well!

San Diego was transformed into Middle-earth on Friday, as Prime Video showcased the highly anticipated second season of the epic series, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. Showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay were joined on the iconic Hall H stage by over a dozen cast members for a lively and insightful conversation moderated by Emmy-nominated actress and renowned genre fan Yvette Nicole Brown (Avengers: Endgame, Community). 

The ensemble cast thrilled the 6,500 fans who packed the massive convention center hall by unveiling a brand-new exclusive trailer for the upcoming season. The action-packed trailer focuses on the long-feared reemergence of the legendary villain Sauron, heralding the return of darkness and evil to Middle-earth after many years of hard-fought peace among all of its realms. The trailer also highlighted the creation of more of the titular Rings of Power, forged with the aid of Sauron’s powers of deception and manipulation.

Due to some health complications impacting my ability to work all day, every day for a week and not fall asleep in the GUND booth, I bowed out of this year's New York Toy Fair coverage...but NEVER FEAR!! Kosmos Announces the Release of Three Board Games for the First Time in the U.S.

McFarlane's Movie Maniacs Adds More Non-Maniacs

Yes, folks, the tears are real. Some years back, McFarlane Toys announced a relaunch of their legendary Movie Maniacs action figure line. The fact that the announcement came with no hint of a release schedule or a nudge toward character selection didn't bother die-hard fans much, as the sight of that logo on the walls of their Toy Fair booth alone was enough to generate excitement. Flash forward to 2023 and McFarlane proudly announces their first wave of modern Movie Maniacs, kicking things off with.... Bugs Bunny, Harry Potter, The Wicked Witch of the West, and the genuinely terrifying ....Ted Lasso. McFarlane clarified that rather than returning to the depths to explore horror's most fiendish fiends, their new Movie Maniacs would celebrate 100 years of Warner Brother's movie icons. So...why the moniker "Maniacs"? I'm gonna guess the answer is "Why not?"

Middle Earth Ultimate Collector’s Edition Arrives on 4K October 26

Celebrate 20 years of adventure and friendship as Warner Bros. releases the Middle-Earth Ultimate Collector’s Edition, timed to the 20th anniversary of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring.  The 31-disc Ultimate Collector’s Edition of Peter Jackson’s Middle-earth saga contains new special features along with the theatrical and extended versions of all sic films in 4K Ultra HD and on Blu-ray discs remastered from the 4K master. The Ultimate Collector’s Edition will be released on October 26.

Alamo Drafthouse "Support Local Cinemas" Series with THE LORD OF THE RINGS Reunion

One ring to rule them all... and two decades later, three incredible chances to support local cinemas at THE LORD OF THE RINGS Cast Reunion.

A full year after the world changed, Alamo Drafthouse Cinema is bringing together Middle-earth’s finest to celebrate and support local cinemas across the world. Hobbit Trilogy and Lord of the Rings Trilogy Coming to 4K

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment announced today that The Hobbit Trilogy and The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, from Academy Award®-winning filmmaker Peter Jackson, will be available for the first time on 4K UHD on December 1.  

From New Line Cinema and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures, the two epic trilogies include the theatrical and extended versions of the six films in 4K UHD with HDR.  The Hobbit Trilogy includes The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, and The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. The Lord of the Rings Trilogy includes The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, which won Academy Awards® for Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Adapted Screenplay.  Both trilogies will also include Digital copies of both versions of each film.

Pre-Orders Up For Diamond Select's Lord of the Rings Figures!

Not sure if anyone else saw it coming at this year's New York International Toy Fair...but I sure didn't. Greeting me on a shelf were a set of brilliant new Lord of the Rings action figures, alongside a build-a-figure Sauron in armor that would just about make your eyeballs explode from your head. Toy Biz's LOTR action figure line set an extremely high bar in all categories across the board. Paints, sculpting, likenesses, accessories, scale, army builders...you name it, Toy Biz exceeded all expectations. For a company like Diamond Select, who know full well they have large, pointy shoes to fill, to tackle such a legacy means they are all geared up and ready for battle. From the looks of the initial lineup, we'll soon be very happy geeks!

Doctor Who, Portal 2, Simpsons & More Coming to Lego Dimensions

It seems like only yesterday we introduced LEGO Dimensions! It’s essentially the LEGO Company and Warner Brothers Interactive’s take on the whole Skylanders / Disney Infinity game and toy concept, coming to all the major consoles late this Summer. One of the things that seems to set Lego Dimensions apart is that instead of using what amounts to little plastic statues, it uses actual Lego minifigures and mini builds that you can take off their stands and take apart and rebuild any way you want. Even though that won’t affect how the characters and vehicles and items show up in game, in my eyes that adds a bit more value to the shelf loads of ‘stuff’ this game is going to be cluttering up your toy and video game stores with in the near future.
