Also making her first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be Riri Williams AKA IRONHEART, played by Dominique Thorne. In Marvel Comics, the 15 yr old Riri impresses Tony Stark with her super-genius intellect and construction of her own suit of Iron Man-inspired armor, and he becomes her mentor. Since Tony gave his life in the finale of Avengers: Endgame, it's been speculated that Wakanda's own mega-mind, Shuri, may take on that mentorship role. Following her Wakanda Forever performance, Ironheart will next appear in her own self-titled TV series for Disney+. Just as Ms. Marvel recently ran afoul of the Department of Damage Control when exposing her powered self in public, we may expect a similar turn when Riri returns home from Wakanda with a weapon comparable to the Iron Man armor. Wackiness ensues? Most likely!
So now you are up to speed on the basics and the buzz, leaving us ready to pour over these mocked-up-looking T Shirt designs that fell into my lap in the wee hours of the morning from an extremely trusted source in the industry.
Being that Riri Williams is 15 and not (as far as we can tell) a billionaire, and seemingly made her armor without the aid of Wakandan tech (or Shuri), it is completely understandable that her first armor would appear, to some degree, much like the armor Tony cobbled together from spare parts in a cave. ...Which is to say..a little clunky! An exposed head is a suit of armor bozo nono and sneakers, while being an excellent nod to the Spider-Verse's Miles Morales, are probably not too practical for high-altitude flying. Since the full image on Ironheart's own T Shirt appears to be identical to the one on the Wakanda Forever design, we may speculate that, by the time Riri hits the skies in her own show, Shuri will have had some design input and we'll see a completely new set of armor. Still, the heart-like shape of the arc reactor is adorable, and I don't mean that in a condescending way. As teens become more prevalent in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, I'm hoping to see their individuality shine through their personal costume choices. I'll also mention I love the font type used for the Ironheart name on her own T Shirt. It screams punk rock, and lord knows we could all use a little loud rebellion right now.
With San Diego Comic-Con mere weeks away and Disney's own super con following in September, we expect to see a lot more from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and Ironheart!
