On May 12, Find Your Grind (FYG), an organization dedicated to helping kids explore unconventional careers and alternative lifestyles, will team up with one of the most followed Fortnite gamers in the world to award nine gaming lifestyle scholarships to deserving recipients. FYG and Team Rogue’s Benjamin “DrLupo” Lupo will announce the winners of the Gamer Grind scholarship at The Bay skatepark in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Event attendees will have a chance to get autographs and takes pictures with Nebraska native DrLupo, ask questions on how he made it big during a Q&A session, and may even be selected to play Fortnite with DrLupo on his livestream, which has more than 1 million followers on Twitch. Tune in to DrLupo’s Twitch channel to catch the live action here: https://www.twitch.tv/drlupo.
DrLupo’s growth in viewership over the past few months has made him one of the most popular streamers currently on Twitch. His channel ranked #3 on the most watched list with over 1.4 Million hours watched in a single week from April 23 to 29. This was bolstered largely by his participation in a charity event in which he and other popular Fortnite streamers raised nearly $340,000 in 24 hours for St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
Following its recent partnership with esports infrastructure company and owner of team Rogue, ReKTGlobal, FYG’s curriculum and events now include esports and video gaming, an industry that is expected to grow to $1 billion in the next year. The partners launched the largest annual esports lifestyle scholarship program in the U.S. with FYG set to give away $450,000 annually in esports scholarships. This program’s first worldwide scholarship, The Gamer Grind, can be awarded to anyone, regardless of age or background, who embodies the gaming lifestyle and shares personal stories of how video games have positively impacted their life.
“It means a lot to me to partner with ReKTGlobal, Rogue and FYG to make an impact on my home state,” says DrLupo. “It’s amazing what the gaming community can do when we come together, from being able to raise more than $300,000 for St. Jude Children’s Hospital on my Twitch stream to supporting kids who want to pursue gaming lifestyles through scholarships and educational programs.”
“DrLupo personifies what we aim to achieve with our gaming and esports scholarships,” says Nick Gross, Founder of Find Your Grind. “He’s a Nebraska local who has used his passion for gaming to achieve great success in a unique lifestyle. He’s an example of what we hope all of our scholarships recipients can achieve.”
The winners of the eight Gamer Grind scholarships will be announced at 1:00 p.m., with DrLupo personally awarding a check for FYG’s latest scholarship opportunity, the Live Streamer Scholarship, at 2:30 p.m. live on Twitch. This scholarship’s application will be open until noon CDT on May 12 (the start of the event) and a winner will be selected from among the event attendees who applied for the award. Each recipient will receive $5,000 in funds, which may be used for anything that advances their goals for pursuing a gaming lifestyle.
As the largest annual esports lifestyle scholarship program in the U.S., the $450,000-FYG fund is open not only to highly-skilled esports athletes, but also teens with a passion and interest in esports, regardless of their education level or playing skill.
Students who plan to be in attendance can apply for the FYG Live Streamer Scholarship presented by DrLupo HERE.
The FYG and DrLupo event will take place 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. on May 12, 2018, at The Bay, located at 2005 Y St, Lincoln, NE 68503.
