Humans, Orcs and Elves Coexist in David Ayer's BRIGHT

Set in an alternate present-day where humans, orcs, elves and fairies have been coexisting since the beginning of time, this action-thriller directed by David Ayer (Suicide Squad, End of Watch, writer of Training Day) follows two cops from very different backgrounds.  Ward, a human (Will Smith), and Jakoby, an orc (Joel Edgerton), embark on a routine night patrol that will alter the future of their world as they know it.  Battling both their own personal differences as well as an onslaught of enemies, they must work together to protect a young female elf and a thought-to-be-forgotten relic, which in the wrong hands could destroy everything.

I used to spend a lot of time exploring horror films for Dread Central. Among the new and old creators, you would cross your fingers hoping for a genuine moment of creativity that could spark your imagination and not just leave you scratching your head. Within these hundreds of films were a select few scenes that stuck with me, usually involving the monstrous nature of humanity rather than a finely crafted piece of special effects with tooth and claw and a gaping maw. An ordinary human being doing something absolutely terrifying simply because they can will always send a chill down my spine faster than any creature lurking in the shadows.

How's that for timing? This short film explains the events surrounding the diabolical Death of Superman story line, taking you on a magical journey INTO the comic itself while simultaneously giving you a glimpse into the minds of the DC executives involved in the comic's..umm...birthing. We'll go with birthing. As this is an epic tale, Max recruited his buddies to help out. The Death and Return of Superman stars Elden Henson, Elijah Wood, Mandy Moore, Morgan Krantz, Simon Pegg, Chris Hardwick, Misti Dawn, Jimmi Simpson, little Ronny Howard, Max Landis (as Max Landis) and many, many more. This is NOT a 5 minute movie, so keep this in mind when you hit play. You're gonna want to take this in all at once.



Max comments "The original rant was 45 minutes long, so of course we had to cut a bunch of stuff out for time, and because it was just too stupid. Like for instance the part where Pa Kent dies of a heart attack and literally GOES TO HEAVEN. AND SEES SUPERMAN. If I saw this video, I might nerd rage out so hard. But luckily I made it, so I'm pretty happy. Really I'd hope people just are with me, and happy that Guy Gardner and Bloodwynd get to be in a movie."

This is the funniest thing I've seen all year. I know it is only February...but I'm confident enough to make that bet right now.

Death and Return of Superman

Some crazy fucking project from Max Landis, apparently starring Elijah Wood and my favorite porn gamer, Misti Dawn. Those of you who are the slightest bit familiar with DC Comics and/or the Death of Superman story line have just fallen out of your chair. Hope you didn't hurt yourselves. We find strength through pain. I'm positive this straight to the interwebs short was created just in case the new Superman movie makes us cry.
