Toy Fair 2016: Big Chief Studios on Penny Dreadful, Sherlock, Doctor Who, Danger Mouse & More

2015 was a hell of a year for cloth action figures! In a category where Hot Toys pretty much dominated for many years with smaller scaled figures being MEGO reproductions or new items in the same style, we've now got a whole new ballgame with NECA and Mezco hitting mass retail with amazing, quality product. Across the pond, our friends at Big Chief Studios prefer to stick to the traditional 12 inch format and wows with every release, making many a Doctor Who fan's dreams come true while also filling the wish lists of Sherlock fans. This year, we also get a look at Penny Dreadful 12 inch action figures as well as some Danger Mouse merchandise, on display at Spring Fair in the UK. Let's get into it...

Big Chief Studios: The Latest on Doctor Who & Sherlock 12 inch Action Figures

While Hot Toys continue their domination of Asia and, closer to home, nearly every damn collector's heart here in the states via Sideshow Collectibles, a little company called Big Chief Studios has been making a big noise across the pond with a range of BBC TV based 12 inch action figures with likenesses that take down all comers. Our buddies at Big Chief set up camp at MCM Birmingham Comic Con nearly two weeks back and displayed their latest and greatest from both Doctor Who and Sherlock lines. Prepare to throw your money at the screen...

Big Chief's Sherlock Heads

When making the ultimate collectible for a much beloved series of any sort, you can start 1 of 2 ways. One would be to begin with the basics like accessories essential to the character...get all that minutia filled in to get the fans salivating and then wow them with the full reveal proclaiming YOUR toy is the BEST toy in the verse and no other toy is worthy to stand next to it. Another road would be to show off the hardest bit of a 12 inch action figure first, for the approval and comments of those die hard fans, so you are assured they are in love by the time you show off a perfectly fitting outfit and all the little bits packed along with it. In the case of a 12 inch action figure, the hardest bit is always the head, as nailing the likeness of a human being is more an art than anything else. Big Chief always seems to go the second route and today, continue that fine tradition with the reveal of the heads for their Sherlock 12 inch action figures at the Birmingham Memorabilia show this weekend.

Toy Fair 2013 : Sherlock is Coming

Big Chief Studios are getting in on the Toy Fair teaser business you love so much...and by love I mean hate with the passion of 1,00000 burning suns. NO TEASING!!! Anyways, our favorite 12 inch action figure making Brits dropped a teaser today that looks an awful lot like Benedict Cumberbatch sporting his "Sherlock" TV show look. What does that tell us?

THERE'S A 12 INCH SHERLOCK FIGURE ON THE WAY!!!

Not much more news to it as this is, after all, a teaser. We will note that Big Chief only sells their products online, so if you like what you see, today is a good day to dive into their website HERE and scoop up their amazing 11th Doctor and Amy Pond 12 inch figures, or that 10th Doctor figure we showed HERE that had one female friend of ours clutching her ovaries. I admittedly don't know exactly what that means, but I assume it is a sort of happy feeling. We'll assume this mini Cumberbatch will trigger a similar clutching of womanly parts. A little birdie told us Sherlock will definitely have a friend to solve mysteries with, so keep watching for that reveal!

We've still got a small mountain of UK Toy Fair goodness to sort through as the companies begin to send us all their teasers and pre-show reveals, so keep checking back often and follow us on Twitter at https://twitter.com/idlehandsblog or https://twitter.com/nomadixxx (if you want your news faster and don't mind mildly psycho chatter.)

You can also dive into our picture galleries as they go live RIGHT HERE!
