So what do we know about this movie so far? Not a whole lot. Collider talked to Paramount and got the following quote from JJ Abrams himself...
“The idea came up a long time ago during production. We wanted to make it a blood relative of Cloverfield. The idea was developed over time. We wanted to hold back the title for as long as possible.”
Collider's thinking (and ours) is that the "blood relative" comment suggests this is a sort of "sister" film to the original Cloverfield, in that it takes place in the same universe as the first movie. The underground bunker suggests some cataclysm, possibly triggered by the monstrous attack of the mysterious creature from movie 1, and may be even more of a human story (than the 1st film) as we watch three people locked in a space together, slowly becoming unhinged, with no knowledge of what's happened to the world above. Does this mean we won't see giant monster(s) in the new movie? It's very possible. JJ Abrams tends to do his own thing, but you can bet Paramount pleaded with him for a monster-payoff so people don't throw rocks as the closing credits come up. That said, we figure there's an even 50/50 chance we see monsters of some sort...maybe even 65/35 in favor of what everyone will expect to some degree. MONSTER MADNESS!! Still...that text on the first poster suggests otherwise, so prepare yourselves.
10 Cloverfield Lane hits theaters March 11, 2016.
