The Spider-Man: Homecoming Trailer is EVERYTHING

Marvel Studios Spider-Man Homecoming Trailer Stills
There are areas of the Marvel Universe that have made it to the big screen and yet, never quite captured the full perfection of its comic book counterparts. The X-Men stand as the most glaring abuse with countless films that ignore the core systems that made the comic so popular in favor of explosions, FX gimmicks that never fully pull the trigger and over use of a shirtless Hugh Jackman. Spider-Man has been another pitiable character with countless award winning comics and yet, each film crew seems to understand how to capture part of that magic, but not the whole mindblowing experience. There always seemed to be something missing. Now, we've come to the first trailer for the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Spider-Man: Homecoming. I've had very few expectations going in. Peter Parker's debut in Captain America: Civil War was extremely satisfying but we'd not fully seen his world. Now we get a nice, long look...and it's everything I've always wanted.

Here's the first thing to note: Marvel has no need to tell the origin story of Spider-Man. We all know it by heart by now, so that's thrown out the window. It seems we won't be mired in the weight of the "With great power comes great responsibility" speech and the guilt that comes with it...the fatalistic love affair between Peter and Mary Jane or the constant battle for living expenses that make for amusing on screen moments and little else. Instead, we've rolled back Peter to an age when he feels the urge to pitch in at home but perhaps doesn't need to (and probably won't now that Tony Stark is a benefactor) and is too young to be concerned with deciding the rest of his life. Also, he's just fought alongside and against the Avengers and THAT is an experience that doesn't leave you...but here he is...told to go back to school and lay low until a situation arises where he is absolutely needed. Call the confluence of circumstances "convenient" but I call it a clever way to unburden a near soap operatic storyline that almost always gets caught up in a lot of romantic claptrap. I'm tired of it..you're tired of it...and obviously Marvel is sick to death of watching it. Let's get back to the excitement...the insane villains..the awesome feeling of witnessing a hero find his way in a world where super powered beings are just starting to display their power, for the good of mankind or to force us to bow. LET'S HAVE SOME FUN!!! Guardians of the Galaxy proved we could laugh our way through a super hero action movie. Ant-Man showed us you can build on those laughs with a heaping helping of heart. Now, we're ready for the epic writing that made so many Spider-Man stories stick with loyal readers for their entire lives. An unforgettable Spider-Man story is funny and fast paced one moment and terrifying while tearing your heart out the next. This is what I'm looking for. I think we are ready.
