LEGO Marvel Super Heroes: The Avengers

WARNING: The images related toLink this article contain recreations of scenes from the movie. Sure, they are done with LEGO, but they may be considered spoilers none the less. You've been warned! Spoilery pics will be after my notes toward the bottom, so you can read a bit before you bail.

LEGO gave us a heaping helping of DC Super Heroes with an emphasis on the adorable, pudgy world of the Batman, and now, it is time for the MARVELS!! Reviewing LEGO sets is somewhat ridiculous unless you are a HARDCORE LEGO collector with that audience, which I and we are not. You'll want to know that, like all LEGO sets, the bits lock together nicely but are not impossible to separate when you make the inevitable mistake. They even make a tool for that! The vehicles have a nice, clean design which doesn't compromise to allow for the action gimmicks. Aside from the groovy super cycle for Captain America, the sets include bits right from the film, so you'll notice that attention to detail. Where a lot of toy companies take liberties for the sake of kid likability, LEGO sticks to the source material...mostly. That little mini fighter drone that drops out of the Quinjet may not be accurate, but it sure is cool! Note the upper right console screen on the Helicarrier set and then tell me these people don't love their jobs! As great as these sets are, there were some things missing and we were forced to fill in with a little creativity and a tiny dash of photoshopping. Here are my notes...

- No hair included for Tony Stark's helmet off look, so we borrowed Dracula's hair.
- No maskless head for Captain America at all, so we just borrowed an extra Loki head and Hawkeye hair.
- No bare arms for Thor, so we borrowed those from an extra Hawkeye as well.
- No smirking face for Loki!! I borrowed ours from a DC Super Heroes cop. For the helmet off look, I borrowed hair from Bruce Wayne.
- No Bruce Banner. Ours is made from Robin hair, a Two Face Thug's head, a Zombie body with white guy hands and Frankenstein's legs. We popped him onto Wolverine's cycle for the final battle appearance scene.
- No Agent Coulson. ~sigh~ Why do no toy lines, save Diamond Select's Minimates, show any love for SHIELD's top agent??!! We rectified this with a Lex Luthor figure and Hawkeye's hair...pushed as far up as we could before it looked like it was floating. We also photoshopped his tie black and colored in his pocket triangle. He is a SHIELD agent. They don't do fancy. I also gave him a MEGABloks HALO gun as it suited him.
- and the biggest mistake of these sets...NO NICK FURY!! I couldn't even piece one together with the meager bits I own. Severe lack of black LEGO dudes on my part...and the Werewolf doesn't count.
- The cop car is from an old MEGABloks Marvel Spider-Man set.
- I'll also note that there are TWO more Marvel sets, 1 being the Wolverine Chopper Showdown with Wolverine, Magneto and Deadpool, a helicopter and a motorcycle, and the second from Ultimate Spider-Man, which is unreleased as of this writing.

Putting together a LEGO set instantly turns you into a kid, so I can't imagine a more fun way to celebrate your favorite comics and films than with these sets. I honestly had more fun with this shoot than I do with most action figure jobs and I, as is always the case when I'm geeking out, got completely carried away and wound up with just over 100 pictures.
