GWAR Exhibition at LA's Beyond The Streets 9.13

Let There BE GWAR_Flyer
BEYOND THE STREETS proudly announces LET THERE BE GWAR, a sprawling retrospective showcasing the 40-year legacy of the legendary art collective and shock rock band, GWAR. Opening September 12 and running through November 2, 2025, this exhibition is a free-to-attend deep dive into the outrageous universe that GWAR has spent four decades constructing through music, performance, and subversive visual art.

Born from a group of punk musicians and visual artists working out of an abandoned dairy building in Richmond, Virginia, GWAR emerged in 1984 as a hybrid of heavy metal theater and absurdist sci-fi mythology. Hunter Jackson, a VCU student crafting costumes for his film Scumdogs of the Universe, joined forces with musician Dave Brockie, and what began as a one-off stunt evolved into a full-blown, blood-splattered empire of art, performance and chaos.

Toy Fair 2025: Trick or Treat Sculpts Questionable GWAR Parts

Toy Fair 2025 Trick or Treat GWAR figures 13
And the Earth belched and split open, spilling liquid hot magma upon the once lush field of daisies, and from this newly formed chasm emerged a dark figure...crawling...scratching...snarling. Pulling itself onto two monstrous legs and lifting its mutated head toward the heavens to curse a vengeful god it bellowed just ..one..word. GWARRRRRR!!! And then I went to see them play with the Dickies once, spur of the moment, in some abysmal place like Connecticut or DELAWARE and I swear they used fruit juices instead of the usual tasteless fake bloods and we tasted each other as the streams soaked us to our ragged bones. And it was a good night. Anyway, Trick or Treat Studios are FINALLY making the GWAR action figures we deserve and they were on display at NY Toy Fair 2025...

"Daughters of Darkness" Celebrates The Faces of Metal

Jeremy Saffer's Daughters of Darkness Art Book
Noted celebrity and music photographer Jeremy Saffer has joined forces with Rare Bird Books for the release of the coffee table book Daughters of Darkness, a photographic love letter to the iconography of Black Metal and Doom.

“‘Daughters of Darkness’ has been a project that’s been in the works for a third of my lifetime,” Saffer says. “I knew that I wanted to make the most of this project and, most importantly, have it done the right way. Rare Bird not only shared my vision for what the physical collection of all this work should look like, but also are as excited for this project to come to fruition as I am. It’s really important that an artist’s vision is shared by the people bringing that vision into physical visual form.”

Slain: Back From Hell Rocks The Switch

Slain Back from Hell for the Nintendo Switch 02
Why do people still buy DVDs? Why do folks still read actual comic books? Why would a game company put out a physical version of a game people already downloaded? PEOPLE LIKE TO OWN THINGS THAT ARE REAL!! Every time your computer turns dumb and won't work anymore, more often than not, what happens to all your pictures? Unless they are online somewhere, they are gone forever. There's something to be said for owning a real, touchable, physical item. Most of the time, you can control when it goes away. Just my 2 cents!

You've heard of games that are run and gun? This one is dash and decapitate!

SDCC 2018: Shred On War Machine's Mini Pantera Guitar Exclusives

SDCC 2018 War Machine Marketing Pantera Mini Guitar Exclusive
We dive back into the San Diego Comic-Con Exclusives with War Machine Marketing, bringing us mini collectibles celebrating the raw power of Dimebag Darrell of Pantera. METAL rules all!

“I’ve been a huge PANTERA fan since 1991. Their records hold such a unique place in my heart and were there to help me through the ups and downs of life. I not only wanted to make a tribute to this band I love so much but to also honor Dimebag Darrell and his legacy in music. However, now with the passing of his brother, Vinnie Paul, we feel that this tribute is even more important than for fans. It has made what was going to be a celebration of the band and their meaning to everyone into a bittersweet tribute to the Abbott brothers,” explains CEO of War Machine Marketing, Ro Kohli.

Slayer's Blood Soaked Music Videos

It's funny how life works. I'm no spring chicken, which is to say..I've seen some stuff. The thing that surprised me more in my lifetime (thus far) has been how truly tiny Hollywood is from the inside...and smaller still in the world of horror...and then even smaller when you meet a handful of people you find mutual respect with, check out their friends and realize..all the good people flock together! Such is the case with Slayer, a band I feel like I've been listening to all my life. If a hand hitting a wall in frustration had a soundtrack, Slayer would be playing those chords.

Fantasia Film Festival 2015: Horror & Metal, The Perfect Mix

Emilie Noetzel launches into her second day of the 2015 Fantasia International Film Festival ...

I started my second day in Montreal with a long walk down Sherbrooke, McGill, and Ste-Catherine Street, from my hotel to Atwater metro station, slowly going about my day and taking photos of random things as I tend to do when left to own devices in any city. This was once my city, but I never used to take many photos around town, so I intend on correcting this. My obsession with lighting fixtures continues! I have taken far too many photos of them and will keep on doing so until I have ALL of them.

Fantasia Film Festival 2015: It's Demons Vs Metal in "Deathgasm"

With San Diego Comic-Con coverage still rolling out and Sweet Suite coverage piled on top of that, it must be time for the Fantasia International Film Festival!!! Emilie Noetzel returns to her home turf to take in some movies, visit some old friends and defeat the undead. Sure why not. Take it Emi...

I arrived in Montreal at an ungodly early hour, thanking my good luck for having a great friend willing to pick me up at a time I'd normally want to be seeing nothing but the insides of my eyelids.  I haven't been to my hometown in 2 years, so I need to do many things and see many people while I'm here, but first, I'll recharge my social batteries with a friend and have some excellent food.

After a lengthy visit, I took care of a few things and took a 2 minutes nap. Oops, I mean 3+ hours nap. This lead to a mad rush to get to the Hall theater to go see "Deathgasm", a heavy metal horror film from New Zealand. Due to my accidental extended nap, there was no time for diner, so a small popcorn and a water bottle would have to tide me over. Once seated at the very last minute, I was ready to take it all in.

New Darkness Video for "Barbarians" Packed With Comic Book Gore

You know how to instantly get my attention? Tell me a new music video from one of the best rock acts of the modern age contains amazing comic book art depicting Barbarians ransacking villages, and ultimately, gutting the band itself. SOLD. With a Tweet from Nick Roche, the amazing artist behind this work, I dove in without hesitation, knowing I'd be reliving my torn jeans wearing youth, blasting Manowar songs outside my high school. Manowar understood the power of a great metal song where vikings bathed the lands in red and left only fires raging in their wake...you know..the foundations of music! Impossible to dance to..great for beer drinking. But we aren't here to speak of the bygone days of METAL...we are here to celebrate THE DARKNESS and a truly epic music video.
