Opening Film: Victory
NYAFF2024 will kick off with the rip-roaring Korean sports comedy-drama Victory. This feel-good film about a group of high school cheerleaders is sure to shake you awake with their synchronized routines! Even more exciting, lead actresses Lee Hye-ri and Park Se-Wan, as well as director Park Beom-su, will be in attendance. Lee Hye-ri will also receive the 2024 Screen International Rising Star Asia Award.
Centerpiece Film: The Killers |
The festival will host the world premiere of The Killers as our Centerpiece Presentation. This high-concept anthology depicts our turbulent times through the work of contract killers. In attendance will be directors Chang Hang-jun, Kim Jong-kwan, Lee Myung-Se, and Roh Deok, all of whom are alumni of the festival. Actress Shim Eun-kyun, renowned for her roles in features Miss Granny and Sunny, will also be in attendance. |
Closing Film: Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In |
The North American premiere of Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In will be this year’s final screening. Set in the infamous Kowloon Walled City, this film is a shot of pure adrenaline for Hong Kong action junkies. It features veterans Sammo Hung, Terrance Lau, Raymond Lam, and last year's Extraordinary Star Asia Award winner Louis Koo. Producer John Chong and actor Philip Ng will be in attendance. |
Filmmaker In Focus: Ray Yeung |
This year’s special program Filmmaker in Focus will be featuring Hong Kong auteur Ray Yeung. As part of the upcoming festival, we are showcasing Yeung’s most transcendent, era-defining LGBTQ+ films, including Front Cover, All Shall Be Well, and Twilight’s Kiss. |
Star Asia Lifetime Achievement Award: Tai Bo |
We are honored to present the 2024 Star Asia Lifetime Achievement Award to Hong Kong actor and living legend Tai Bo. From working behind the scenes in various roles to his award-winning performances, Tai Bo has won multiple awards such as Best Supporting Actor at the 37th Golden Horse Awards and Best Drama Supporting Actor at the 42nd Golden Bell Awards. Tai Bo is showcased in the films For Alice, Twilight’s Kiss, and All Shall Be Well at this year's festival. |
Special Program: Spotlight on 852 Films |
This year we are excited to feature a special program Spotlight on 852 Films with Hong Kong singer-actor-producer Josie Ho. Josie will introduce and re-introduce some of her most daring projects, most notably Onpaku and Habit. |
Best from the East Award: Kento Yamazaki |
The Best from the East Award goes to Japanese actor Kento Yamazaki! Come see the superstar present the International Premiere of Kingdom: Return of the Great General, the fourth chapter of the megahit action franchise. Kento also works magic as the true-life sorcerer Abe no Seimei in The Yin Yang Master Zero at the festival. |
Actor in Focus: Ananda Everingham |
We are thrilled to feature Thai actor Ananda Everingham as this year's Actor in Focus. Everingham is a key star in this year’s enhanced Thai program, Thai Treasures, which boasts six new films. He stars as a fatalistic ladykiller in Supposed, and also appears in the melancholic thriller Pattaya Heat and the eerie folk horror film The Cursed Land. |
