Dead By Daylight Takes On Freddy Krueger

If you are a fan of horror and horror video games, you are no stranger to Dead by Daylight! Last year around this time, we were treated to the arrival of Michael Myers and his final girl, Laurie Strode, complete with a hellish half-acre of Haddonfield. Some weeks back, Leatherface joined the hunt. Now the Springwood Slasher shreds that delicate boundary between dreams and waking, turning an already horrific game into the stuff of nightmares.

Video Game Freddy Joins Video Game Jason

If we are to discuss "What exclusive item wore its fandom right out there on its sleeve and caused a HUGE word of mouth swell at San Diego Comic-Con 2013" leading to, what I'd expect, was a massive hoard of buyers at the show and an even larger hoard rushing to online sources to be sure they were not shut out, then we need look no further than NECA and their Friday the 13th Video Game styled Jason action figure...complete with glow in the dark parts. HOLY GRAIL!! Now, NECA has decided Jason needs a friend and who better than the nightmare demon with the unholy back scratchers?

Freddy and Jason Get Squishier

FUNKO, makers of fantastical bobble heads and vinyl figures in every shape and size your pop culture loving brain can conjure up have done it AGAIN!! I've expounded countless times on my love for their Plushie doll format which brings a simplistic style to the licenses you've come to love over your lifetime. The end result is so perfect and satisfying, you want to collect a whole shelf full of them. Funko have done their best to allow you this option, filling their lines with toys from DC Comics, Lord of the Rings, Alice in Wonderland, The Wizard of Oz and more. Now, TERROR COMES TO PLUSHIE TOWN!!! (I've copyrighted that phrase. No stealing.) The obvious move is to bring on the bad guys, so Nightmare on Elm Street's Freddy Krueger and Friday the 13th's Jason Voorhees are on the way. The doll line is made in a 7 inch tall format, just FYI, and are available EVERYWHERE online as well as your local comic shops and some retailers.

UK Toyfair: NEW Toys for Tron, Predators, Jonah Hex, How to Train Your Dragon and The Last Airbender

The first bits of info are coming in from UK toyfair, so as we sort it out, I thought we'd start with items we didn't know were coming.

We knew NECA has the new Nightmare on Elm Street and is currently slated to put out human and burned up Freddy Krueger figures. We also knew they were doing Perseus from the new Clash of the Titans movie and perhaps a second version of him, at the very least. What we didn't know is they also have the new Predators movie and Jonah Hex! I'm sort of cold on the whole Pred/Alien thing, but Jonah Hex toys from NECA has me grinning from ear to ear. Couldn't think of a more perfect match! NECA also will continue current lines with Twilight: Eclipse, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and their popular Cult Classics line. NECA also expands their Wizkids Clix line with HaloClix!

As for Tron, Spin Master has the goods with 3 3/4 action figures and a big baddy whose head has inner projection to show FX from the new movie. Sources say Spin Master also had "How to Train Your Dragon" and "The Last Airbender" toys. The Airbender toys are said to be a small line, but it contains a "lovely Appa".

New DVD/ Blu-ray Goodies From the WB

Lord of the Rings Animated Deluxe Edition: Controversial animator Ralph Bakshi's literal adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's classic fantasy trilogy, The Lord of the Rings, is brought to the screen. An evil sorcerer from a previous era created a magical ring which enables its users to call upon its tremendous powers to rule the world, but it inevitably warps them to evil. It was believed lost, but during a resurgence of magical evil in the world, Bilbo, a simple, plain-spoken hobbit, recovers it from its hiding place. The forces of good give his nephew Frodo the choice to bear the awful burden of the ring to a place where it may be destroyed.

Features: Re-mastered in an all-new Deluxe Edition! New EC includes a featurette with legendary director Ralph Bakshi -- Forging Through The Darkness: The Ralph Bakshi Vision for The Lord of the Rings. Runtime approx 30 minutes Street Date: 4/6/10

A Nightmare On Elm Street: “1, 2, Freddy’s coming for you.” And here he is, phantom fiend Freddy Krueger in all his razor-fingered infamy. Wes Craven (Scream movies) directs this trendsetting first in the slash-hit series. The premise is simple: Freddy (Robert Englund) homicidally haunts the sleep of Elm Street teens. The results are terrifying and mind-blowingly innovative. There’s another film debut too: Johnny Depp. He plays the ready steady of the hottie mcsmarty (Heather Langenkamp) who figures a clever way to flambé the fiend. But ever-say-die Freddy will be 3, 4 back for more…even returning to the screen in a killer 2010 remake of this diabolical original. Sweet dreams!

Secrets Behind the Nightmare by Jumping to Video Highlights While Watching the Movie

WB 2010 Preview Kit

Warner Brothers gives us a look at the colossal lineup of films for 2010.

THE BOOK OF ELI (Action Adventure) - January 15
Plot: A post-apocalyptic tale, in which a lone man fights his way across America in order to protect a sacred book that holds the secrets to saving humankind.
My Two Bits: I've seen the trailer a couple of times now and not exactly sure what it's about except there's some apocalypse theme and Denzel is a complete bad ass in it. When the world ends, I know whose mansion I'm camping out in front of. Also, Denzel was rubbing himself in a video I shot at San Diego Comic Con and Gary Oldman said something to the effect that he was a sexy beast, so, while I'm slightly scarred and still confused, I'm in.

EDGE OF DARKNESS (Suspense Thriller) - January 29
Plot: As homicide detective Thomas Craven investigates the death of his activist daughter, he uncovers not only her secret life, but a corporate cover-up and government collusion that attracts an agent tasked with cleaning up the evidence.
My Two Bits: Mel with gun, without a beard and crazy eyes = I'm in.

CLASH OF THE TITANS (Action Fantasy) - March 26

Plot: The mortal son of the god Zeus embarks on a perilous journey to stop the underworld and its minions from spreading their evil to Earth as well as the heavens.
My Two Bits: Holy damn am I in. The original is a classic, but stop motion animation (while it can never be replaced) only took us so far into mythology. Now, with cutting edge CGI, I can't wait to see what they've done. If this does insanely well, expect to see other tales of Mythology slapped up on the big screen...for better or for worse. Hercules in New York remake? It could happen.

THE LOSERS (Action Thriller) - April 9

Plot: After being betrayed and left for dead, members of a CIA black ops team root out those who targeted them for assassination.
My Two Bits: It can go either way. Shoot em ups are either tiresome and formulaic or hysterically fun, and I'm always hoping for the latter!

A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET (Horror) - April 30

Plot: Kid toucher/killer is burned alive by the parents and returns, years later, in the dreams of the vigilante group's children to end their lives in horrible ways.
My Two Bits: Still too soon to tell how it will turn out, but I like Platinum Dune's track record so far and Jackie as Freddy interests me, so I'm in.

JONAH HEX (Action Thriller) - June 18

Plot: In the Wild West, a scarred bounty hunter tracks a voodoo practitioner bent on liberating the South by raising an army of the undead.

My Two Bits: The Old West, a scarred gunfighter from the pages of DC Comics and zombies? Sold.

INCEPTION (Sci-Fi Action) - July 16

Trippiest trailer ever, no?
GUARDIANS OF GA’HOOLE (Fantasy Adventure) - September 24

Plot: Soren, a young barn owl, is kidnapped by owls of St. Aggie's, ostensibly an orphanage, where owlets are brainwashed into becoming soldiers. He and his new friends escape to the island of Ga'Hoole, to assist its noble, wise owls who fight the army being created by the wicked rulers of St. Aggie's. The film is based on the first three books in the series.
My Two Bits: Directed by Zack (Watchmen/ 300) Snyder? Sold.

PRISONERS (Suspense Thriller) - Fall

Plot: A man, feeling failed by the system, takes matters into his own hands and captures the individual he feels is responsible for the kidnapping of his daughter and her friend. Torture is on the agenda.

My Two Bits: I don't even know enough to be snarky.

HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS - PART 1 (Fantasy Adventure) - November 19

Plot: Voldemort's power is growing stronger. He now has control over the Ministry of Magic and Hogwarts. Harry, Ron, and Hermione decide to finish Dumbledore's work and find the rest of the Horcruxes to defeat the Dark Lord.

My Two Bits: The last episode, while darker and slicker..and in my opionion far better than the film that came before it, seemed like a very child/ cartoon adventure with the quest for the parts of the thing that will save them all sort of story line. I'm hoping the newest installment brings a bit more to the table and I'll be there to find out.

YOGI BEAR (Live-Action/CG Animated Adventure in 3D) - December 17 (I shit you not.)

Plot: A documentary filmmaker (Anna Faris) travels to Jellystone Park to shoot a project and soon crosses paths with Yogi Bear, his sidekick Boo-Boo, and Ranger Smith.

My Two Bits: Still having flash backs of the Bullwinkle live action fiasco. Must we do this again? Justin Timberlake as Boo-Boo and Dan Arkroyd as Yogi. Umm........

A Closer Look at Jackie Krueger

This week I uncovered early shots of Mezco's 2010 Nightmare on Elm Street line, which premiered on Dread Central. Today, I thought we might take a look at the new face of Freddy alongside the classic look for comparison...

Click for a bigger pic

As promised by the film makers, Freddy sports a more realistic look, reflecting a horribly burned person rather that what will surely become known as the "good lookin" Englund Freddy, on which was taken plenty of artistic license, creating the dream demon we know and love today. Granted, we are looking at a living dead doll for this little lesson, but beggars can't be choosers and we can make allowances for the rounded baby doll face. Beyond that feature, we have the minimized nose, extremely minimal lips and a general smoothing of all facial features as cartilage is burned away and fused with the remaining tissue and musculature. It's certainly a new take on the creature. Another thing to think about is how this makeup will effect Jackie Earle Haley's speech patterns when delivering lines, as well as emoting at all. Only time will tell!
