Arrow Video US - April Release Schedule with Robocop, 12 Monkeys & More

Arrow Video Robocop Steelbook 4K Blu-ray
This April, Arrow keeps the hits coming for cinema enthusiasts. This month's lineup includes six titles from all over the world, including two brand-new box sets and three 4K UHD upgrades.

The 8 Diagram Pole Fighter, from legendary Shaw Brothers' director Lau Kar-leung, makes its American Blu-ray debut on April 5. General Yeung Yip and his sons are ambushed and brutally attacked Golden Beach. The attack leaves Yip and all but two of his sons killed or captured. One son, Yeung Chiu (Alexander Fu Sheng), returns home to his mother and sisters. The other son, Yeung Dak (Gordon Liu), goes to live in a monastery where he develops the eight diagram pole fighting technique. After one of their sisters is captured, Dak is driven with anger to return home and exact his revenge. The 8 Diagram Pole Fighter is widely recognized as Kar-leung's masterpiece and was one of the last great martial arts epics to be released by the famous Shaw Brothers studio. However, the film is also remembered for the great tragedy that struck during filming. Star Fu Sheng tragically died in a car accident midway through production. As a result, Kar-leung reworked the final half of the script, turning it into the ultimate action spectacular as a tribute to his young star. This Arrow release features a brand-new 2K restoration from the original camera negative and comes loaded with bonus content.

Threezero's Walking Dead 12 Inch Figures Shambling Forward

THERE WAS SPECULATION! Back in February when we had our annual visit with the fine folks at McFarlane (who later turned off their phones and stopped returning emails), they mentioned they couldn't do 12 inch figures of your favorite zombie apocalypse survivors and the dead head who love to chew on them because SOMEONE else had the license. They ventured a guess of Sideshow...and they were pretty sure they were right. Now, with the pre-order for their first pieces looming, Threezero is done playing it all ninja-like and is flat out showing off their impressive figure line. WARNING: After seeing these, you may want to throw your other toys away!

We are TREMENDOUSLY excited to announce pre-order dates and pricing of AMC's The Walking Dead Pet Zombies!

This license is very important for us and we want for these amazing characters to step out from the screen onto your displays and to your homes!

Toy Fair 2013 : New Licenses for New Toys

Once a year I used to have the pleasure of dropping in on the New York Licensing Show to get a look at art for new projects, see what older movies the companies were pushing for new product and sometimes, if we were lucky, see actual toys set to hit shelves in the future. That show moved to a shmoozier location in Las Vegas, so now I am left to beg for images from people who get to attend. At UK Toy Fair, the show is primarily like a smaller version of the US counterpart with rows of new product available for order to shops large and small, but that doesn't mean companies can't tempt those manufacturers showing off their wares with the possibilities of licenses for films they love.

...And with that opening teaser, we present two advertisements that reveal..well..not much...but spark a fire collectors love to poke at and watch grow into reality. It's Possibility. Today's licensing offerings are tomorrows new action figures on the pegs!

NECA Action Figure Assassins, Monsters & Metal Men

NECA have been making geek dreams come true for a loooong time now but over the last two years or so, they've taken this approach into overdrive. I suppose it is all a no-brainer when you've got Randy Falk at the wheel creating what are probably the stuff of his childhood dreams. Whose got the best job? Randy does.

We dive back into NECA's plastic filled waters to take a look at the official pics for a trio of figures we first saw as prototypes at Toy Fair 2012 and one tweaked figure that will make your head spin.

Gordon Freeman from Half-Life 2 : This 7 inch scaled action figure joins the Player Select series complete with a crowbar, Gravity Gun, alternate hand and a Head Crab.

Also on tap are a Smoker from Left 4 Dead and Ezio Auditore from Assassin's Creed Revelations. Since these official pics have popped up and previously had a release date of Summer, we can assume they will be up for pre-order ASAP.

Our fourth figure isn't so much a new character as it is an awesome addition to an extremely popular figure many of you already own. How do you top Battle Damage and Glow in the Dark features? How about a working pop up leg holster on your Robocop action figure??!! We know next to nothing about this piece, but the words "spring loaded" were being thrown about, so we expect nothing short of awesome. More details when they become available...or when everyone wakes up. Until then, please enjoy our graphic entitled "The Evolution of NECA's Robocop." What it lacks in poetry, it makes up for in directness.

The Amazing Glow in the Dark Robocop

You know the only thing better than a glow in the dark Robocop action figure? Nothing. Trick question. THERE IS NOTHING BETTER THAN A GLOW IN THE DARK ROBOCOP ACTION FIGURE!!! For the 25th anniversary of Robocop, NECA is releasing the man of metal in a form that hearkens back to the classic Kenner toy line of our youth. The Toys R Us exclusive Night Fighter Robocop comes sealed in a retro styled OCP clamshell that would make old school 8 bit Tron gush with envy. We previously announced this guy would hit this summer with a string of other Toys R Us exclusives and that still seems to be the case, so keep watching the pegs!

NECA's 2012 Exclusives

We've been posting some pretty amazing figures from NECA Toys, shown at this year's International Toy Fair, but there are still more surprises laying in wait for your sweaty little, plastic loving palms this year! NECA appears to have teamed up with Toys R Us to deliver a power pack of exclusive action figures across their most popular lines. The lineup may include...

From the movie Gremlins 2: The Lightning Gremlin
From the video game Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood: Rome Edition Ezio
From the video game Bioshock 2: Brute Splicer
A Jungle Hunter Cloaked Predator
and note this last one was a hell of a translation... Night Fighter Robocop!

We say "may" because NECA have not confirmed this wave of figures, nor have they even hinted at them in our notes from Toy Fair. We've seen the Lightning Gremlin and Brute Splicer a couple of times now, so no surprised there as they were slated for general release anyway but are clearly now set on another path, and either way, we are glad NECA found a means to get them to frantic fans. Now work on bringing us that Spider Gremlin!! It's never enough, is it?

The Rome Edition Ezio, Jungle Hunter Cloaked Predator and Night Fighter Robo are completely new to us. We are told the last one will GLOW IN THE DARK!!! Must have toy for 2012? I think yes. Our tipster points out that this Robocop must be a homage to a certain classic Kenner item. One look at the E.T. line will tell you how NECA feels about classic toys! At any rate, if all goes to plan, these items should show up on the pegs at Toys R Us this Summer, with a limited supply dished out to international chains.

Toy Fair 2012 : NECA Gears of War 3, Portal & More

Oh man...it's just not going to end. It is 5am here on the east coast. The unseasonal sunny Spring like days have given way to a bitter chill and my apartment isn't nearly warm enough. My bed is calling and yet....there are MORE TOY BITS TO POST!!!! Yesterday I told someone Only NECA and Mezco will have anything new to show off at Toy Fair 2012 at this rate. Welp..I think we can almost scratch off NECA. Here's the latest...

Gremlins 2 Stunt Puppet Prop Replica : 30 inches tall with a realistic skin texture and hand painted details. Comes with a metal stand. 1k pieces world wide!

Gears of War 3 Action Figures Series 3 : “Journey’s End” Marcus, Savage Theron (2 different) and a COG Soldier.

Battle Damaged Robocop 7 inch Action Figure : A killer new sculpt showing Officer Murphy beaten down but still dishing our justice. NECA says this is a 100% NEW tooling!

Prop Replica Aperature Science Handheld Portal Device : Lights up! 1:1 scale! Does not really open portals with stolen Acme hole technology. Sad, I know.

A Tale of Three Robocops

Never before was there a character that could be called an untra-violent action hero, scifi curiosity and cybernetic super hero all at once. Robocop is a creation we would not soon forget...so of course toys were a no-brainer! As the films were released, we saw many a sad little hunk of plastic pretending to be our favorite tin man, but it was not until McFarlane stepped up that we really saw what we were missing.

An amazing 7 1/2 inch sculpt is enhanced by a killer silver paint job with the slightest of blue washes over it. You'll find dimension in details like his power port, feet, hips, shoulders and chest, making the overall piece seem more substantial. A mix of glossy and flat paint ties it all together. Sadly, there are spots where it looks like they slopped the paint on and his gun is made of the flimsiest plastic, assuring it would be a rounded mess today...but from 2 feet away on your self, he was a dream come true.

Flash forward to 2011. NECA, masters of translating your movie icons to plastic, take on Officer Murphy with mixed results. NECA go for a flatter look for their 7 inch figure with not as much black wash and less depth. NECA's Robo seems slimmer when stood next to McFarlane's creation. While I think McFarlane nailed the pursed lips, NECA went a step further and has the tiniest bit of nose peeking out the bottom of his visor. Had they made that visor removable, revealing Peter Weller beneath, I would have lost my mind...but sadly, it could not be. Instead, we get enhanced articulation offering slightly more movement than McFarlane's figure. The crowning achievement is in the head, resting on a ball joint, allowing the piece to emote in a way no Robocop toy (at this scale) had ever done before. A tip of the head makes it appear Officer Murphy is trying to work things out...programming vs humanity in a constant struggle. It is amazing what one little joint can do for a figure. NECA also popped in an extra right arm bit with the spike interface on his hand! I'll also mention that NECA's Robocop has a gun made from a more rigid plastic that feels substantial and won't warp over time.

That same year, a company across the water called Max Factory takes on Officer Murphy in a 6 inch scale, creating the ultimate super posable Robocop. They go for a semi gloss look with slight red highlights, no doubt mirroring the original movie poster. This Robocop has ball joints across the board, allowing for full hip movement and excellent range in the shoulders, though wrists that tip forward and back would have been excellent along with a better engineered head that is blocked by the sculpt and thus, appears to be looking down most of the time. Luckily, we've got mid torso articulation, allowing the figure to stand shoulders back when you like. If you've been looking for extras in a Robocop figure, this is the mother load. The Max Factory figma Robocop comes packed with his Auto 9 gun and gunfire flash to attach to the end, a battle damaged top of his head you can swap out, leg pieces allowing it to look like he is deploying his gun from within, EIGHT extra hands (fists, interface spike, pointing for when he wants to boogie and gripping), a translucent base that plugs into his back for aerial action and a handy little zip lock bag to hold all your parts when you bust him out..as you well should. This guy is MADE FOR PLAY..and no end of pew pew noises. Slight drawbacks include a crotch that seems to have been "attached" as an afterthought, so it hangs like loose jockey shorts, and joints that pop out very easily. They also re-attach very easily, so no need to panic there. I'll also note that this Robo's line of a mouth makes him appear to be the cartoony addition to the crew.

note: all three figures have working pistons on the backs of their legs!

While the McFarlane figure is long gone (and will run you 20 to 60 bucks on ebay), NECA and Max Factory's Robocop are available now.
